A fabulous carnelian?fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in sterling silver and 14kt gold, this wonderful piece displays a carved carnelian intaglio which has an open front and back. Surrounding the burnt orange colored stone is a decorative twisted rope border and a curled wirework surmount rests at the top. Carved into the center of the rich carnelian is the profile of a Roman soldier's face, creating a wonderful intaglio image. The fob hangs from a simple sterling bail and would look lovely paired with a complimentary chain. This unique Victorian piece?is simply exceptional, and would make a perfect addition to any collection!
Measurements: The carnelian fob hangs 1 1/2" long, is 1 3/8" wide and has a depth of a little more than 1/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides?normal surface?wear. there is no apparent damage to the mixed metals setting and the carnelian fob is free of any visible chips or scratches.
